Presidents Message June 2008

FPA of San Diego Distinguished Service Award

There are many individuals involved in our chapter that have given and continue to give selflessly to our profession.  With your help we can acknowledge and thank these individuals by awarding them the FPA of San Diego Distinguished Service Award.

This new award recognizes an individual or organization that is doing extraordinary work to contribute and/or give back to the financial planning community and/or to the public through financial planning.  To keep the process simple, you may email your nominations to Teresa Lass, our Chapter Administrator at info@fpasandiego.org.   Please take a minute now to think about someone you would like to acknowledge today.  Keep your submission brief.

Your Board will select the winner and present it to him/her during our year-end/holiday quarterly meeting. 

The idea for this award came about through my involvement with the National FPA Task Force to identify 2008 recipients of the Heart of Financial Planning Distinguished Service Awards. During our conference calls, I learned that the award evolved from the 2005 P. Kemp Fain, Jr. Awards Task Force.  These awards recognize an individual, organization or FPA chapter that is doing extraordinary work to contribute and/or give back to the financial planning community and/or to the public through financial planning and the first recognition was at FPA Nashville 2006.   The intent is to bestow the 2008 awards at FPA Boston 2008.  It is a big task that begins at the chapter level.

Support the FPA SDSU Student Chapter – Play Golf

Returning to Bernardo Heights Country Club on Monday September 22nd  will be the FPA of San Diego annual golf outing.  This year, Financial Planning Association San Diego State University Student Chapter will help organize the outing and they will be the beneficiary of the fund raiser.  It is sure to be a fun day, with prizes and networking with your colleagues, resource partners and the next generation of financial planning.

Education and Networking

Please block off the following dates in your calendar:

September 17th   - Third quarter meeting, featuring market economist Christopher Thornburg and Denise Downy, from Julius Baer, who will share her knowledge on globalization and the investment environment.

October 16th -Planner Resource Day.  Speakers include: New York Times best selling author John Mauldin, Joseph Jordan will talk about Living A Life of Significance, Harold Evensky, will be in the house. And, the San Diego FPA will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Harry Markowitz, who won his Nobel prize in Economics for his work on Modern Portfolio Theory.
